Over the past few hours, a response posted by Halo Studios in their FAQ section caused some confusion among PlayStation 5 players. The original information seemed to suggest that to enjoy local co-op with split-screen in Halo: Campaign Evolved, two active PlayStation Plus subscriptions would be required, a situation that sparked numerous criticisms among fans.
However, the studio has quickly reacted and updated the information to clarify that it was a misinterpretation.
Local co-op in Halo: Campaign Evolved on PS5 won’t require PlayStation Plus
Halo Studios has modified the wording of their FAQ and confirmed that PlayStation Plus will only be necessary for online play, not for sharing the campaign in split-screen from the same console.
That being said, there are other requirements that remain in place. Each player must log in with their own PlayStation account, and both must be linked to separate Microsoft accounts. According to the studio, this is necessary to ensure cross-progression and synchronization between platforms.
So, the situation is as follows:
- Local split-screen co-op on PS5: does not require PlayStation Plus, but does require two PlayStation accounts linked to two Microsoft accounts.
- Online co-op on PS5: requires PlayStation Plus and linked Microsoft accounts.
- Xbox Series: Local split-screen only requires two Microsoft accounts, while Game Pass is only necessary for online play.
This clarification puts an end to a controversy that had surprised many players, as the idea of needing two subscriptions to play on the same couch seemed hard to justify. With Halo Studios’ correction, the local co-op in Halo: Campaign Evolved will work in a much more logical and fan-friendly way.
