Warframe continues to prove itself as one of the most solid games-as-a-service on the market. During the TennoCon 2026, Digital Extremes unveiled the future of the free-to-play shooter with a major expansion that will expand the main story and add new activities for players.
The star of the presentation was Tau, a new expansion that will take the Tenno to explore a completely new location, although it won’t be the only novelty arriving in the coming months.
Tau will mark the next big chapter of Warframe
The new expansion will transport players to Fornax, a massive Sentient city in the shape of a ring surrounded by a constant black rain. This new scenario will serve as the axis of the next stage of the main story and will offer open areas to explore, new characters to interact with, and multiple activities scattered throughout the city.
Digital Extremes has also confirmed the arrival of Brysko, a new playable character equipped with a powerful revolver called Corecracker and combat gloves designed for hand-to-hand combat. Alongside him, a new enemy faction will debut, expanding the number of threats that the Tenno will have to face during this new adventure.
An unexpected card game within Warframe
- One of the most curious surprises of the event was the announcement of Portau, a card minigame integrated into the Warframe universe.
Inspired by poker, this new pastime will allow players to compete in matches using a deck based on four types of cards: Clubs, Cores, Moons, and Suns. According to the studio, Portau will be a very popular entertainment among the inhabitants of the lower districts of Hunra and will be part of the optional activities available during the exploration of Fornax.
For now, Digital Extremes has not confirmed a release date for Warframe: Tau, although everything suggests that it will be one of the most ambitious updates the free-to-play game has received in recent years, reinforcing a title that continues to grow more than a decade after its release.
