Xbox has delivered the blow that many fans were waiting for. Microsoft has officially announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a faithful yet modern reinterpretation of the legendary Halo: Combat Evolved, the title that kicked off the saga in 2001.
The project, developed by Xbox Game Studios, promises to maintain the essence of the original, but with a completely revamped visual aspect, new cinematics, renewed dubbing, and three brand-new missions starring Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Additionally, it will include split-screen co-op mode and full cross-play between console and PC.
A remake that celebrates Halo’s origins with a fresh perspective
In Microsoft’s words, Halo: Campaign Evolved is an “ageless and completely new” experience. Its story will take us back to the mysterious ring world, where Master Chief and Cortana must stop the Covenant threat and uncover Halo’s secrets, in a campaign that redefines the genre’s standards.
The title will feature a complete recreation of all levels, respecting their original structure but improving navigation, signage, and combat pacing. The cinematics and sound have been rebuilt from scratch, and the dubbing has been re-recorded with the main cast. It also includes 9 iconic weapons from the saga, including the Energy Sword, Assault Rifle, and Needle Rifle, expanding tactical possibilities in each encounter.
New missions and modern features in Halo: Campaign Evolved
The remake not only revamps the past but also adds new content:
-
Three prequel missions set before the events of the original game.
- Official Xbox page
-
Local co-op mode for 2 players (console only) and online co-op for 4 players, with shared progression between Xbox and PC.
-
Improved vehicles and enemy hijackings, allowing players to pilot a complete Wraith for the first time.
-
Customizable “Skull” system, which enables mixing and matching weapons, enemies, and environments to alter the campaign’s progression and increase replayability.
With all these new features, Halo: Campaign Evolved is not just a remaster, but a new gateway to the saga, ready for those who want to relive the beginning or discover it for the first time.
