Xbox and ASUS have confirmed at Gamescom 2025 the definitive release date for their new handhelds: ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will be available on October 16, 2025. These devices will arrive globally, with availability in Europe, America, Asia, and other key markets, including Spain and Mexico from day one.
The announcement featured the presence of Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, and other Xbox executives, who emphasized the company’s commitment to offering a unified gaming experience across console, PC, and handheld devices. However, Microsoft has been clear on one point: the price will not be announced until a few weeks from now, justifying the decision due to what they call “macroeconomic conditions”.
Everything we know about the new ROG Xbox Ally
The company explained in detail what each model will offer:
-
Xbox Ally: processor AMD Ryzen Z2 A, designed to balance performance and battery life.
-
Xbox Ally X: advanced model with AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 1 TB of storage, 24 GB of RAM, 80 Wh battery, and haptic triggers for a more immersive experience.
Both devices will arrive with Windows 11 optimized for gaming, a dedicated Xbox environment, unified libraries that include titles from Game Pass, Battle.net, and other PC platforms, as well as compatibility with native gaming, cloud streaming, and Remote Play from console.
Among the most notable new features is the Handheld Compatibility Program, which will mark verified games that work on handhelds with the “Handheld Optimized” or “Mostly Compatible” seals, in addition to a performance indicator. New AI-based features are also being added, such as Auto Super Resolution or automatic clip creation.
Price and reservations, still up in the air
Although the release date is now official, Microsoft has chosen not to set a price or open reservations yet, citing that they will be announced in the coming weeks “when the market allows it”. A detail that adds suspense to a release that, in terms of performance and ambition, promises to be one of the most notable of the year in the hardware industry.
