Microsoft continues to refine its gaming ecosystem, and now it’s focusing on something that many players will notice directly: the size of downloads and loading times. The company has announced new improvements to its development tools that will arrive soon and aim for a faster experience on PC.
These changes are part of the evolution of the Xbox development environment, with new features designed for both studios and players. And what’s interesting is that it’s not a minor thing, as it directly affects how games are distributed and executed.
Xbox bets on lighter downloads and faster startups on PC
One of the main new features is the introduction of a new package format for PC games, specifically designed for Xbox. This system will allow for a significant reduction in the size of updates and improve upload and download times.
- Additionally, Microsoft is working on a simpler experience within the Partner Center, making it easier for developers to manage these packages. This includes the ability to preload shader binaries, which translates to games that start up faster on the player’s device.
Although these features will initially be in the testing phase, they mark the path towards a more efficient distribution of games on PC within the Xbox ecosystem.
With this move, Microsoft continues to bet on improving aspects that often go unnoticed, but have a direct impact on the player’s daily experience, especially in titles with frequent or large updates.
