The future of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls has once again taken center stage after the presentation of Bethesda’s new roadmap. After confirming remasters, new projects, and a collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment, one of the biggest questions remains unanswered: will the next big Bethesda games be Xbox exclusives?
For now, Todd Howard hasn’t wanted to clear up that uncertainty. The head of Bethesda Game Studios was directly asked about the release of Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI on other platforms, but his response makes it clear that it’s not the time to talk about it yet.
Bethesda doesn’t clarify which platforms their next big games will arrive on
In an interview with Windows Central, Howard was explicitly asked about the possible exclusivity of Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI, especially after Xbox president Asha Sharma recently reiterated the intention to continue strengthening the brand’s ecosystem with new releases.
- The executive’s response was brief but forceful: it’s too early to comment on the platforms these games will be available on.
His silence comes at a time when Bethesda has just confirmed several projects related to Fallout, including remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, as well as a new game developed in collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment.
The collaboration with Obsidian excites Bethesda
Howard did want to delve deeper into the collaboration with Obsidian, ensuring that both companies had been considering the possibility of working together again in the Fallout universe for some time. According to him, the goal has always been to find the right project to bring both studios together again, something that has finally become a reality. The Bethesda director stated that all the teams involved are “very excited” about this new era for the franchise.
- Meanwhile, he didn’t want to offer new details about The Elder Scrolls VI, the graphics engine that will be used in Obsidian’s new project, or an approximate calendar for the next announcements.
For now, the only certainty is that Bethesda has a very ambitious roadmap for the next few years. However, the big question about whether Fallout 5, The Elder Scrolls VI, or even future remasters will only arrive on the Xbox ecosystem remains unanswered. That decision, at least for now, continues to be one of the company’s best-kept secrets.
