While GTA 6 is getting all the attention and Rockstar continues to expand the content of GTA Online, many players are still wondering why Grand Theft Auto IV has never received a remaster for current consoles. Unlike other classic games in the series, the title starring Niko Bellic remains limited to the original platforms and Xbox retrocompatibility.
Now, one of the game’s most iconic actors has shared his opinion on the matter and believes there are reasons beyond a simple commercial decision.
Roman Bellic’s voice wants to see GTA 4 back
- Jason Zumwalt, the actor who brought Roman Bellic to life, has stated in an interview that he would love to see GTA 4 adapted for Xbox Series and PlayStation 5. According to him, he has never understood why Rockstar hasn’t revisited a game that remains one of the community’s favorites and marked a turning point in the series’ evolution.
Actor contracts may have complicated the project
Although Zumwalt acknowledges that he doesn’t know the real reason, he believes a possible explanation could be found in the old voice acting contracts and the conditions agreed upon with the SAG-AFTRA union.
- The actor also recalled the well-known case of Michael Hollick, the voice of Niko Bellic, who years ago made public his differences with Rockstar regarding the financial compensation he received for his work on the game. That situation sparked a significant debate about the conditions of voice actors in the industry, and according to Zumwalt, it could have influenced the absence of a new edition.
Players are still waiting for Liberty City’s return
It’s been almost two decades since the release of Grand Theft Auto IV, but the interest in returning to Liberty City remains huge. Retrocompatibility has allowed the game to stay alive on Xbox, although many fans are still dreaming of a version adapted to current standards, with improved graphics, higher resolution, and optimized performance.
For now, Rockstar hasn’t announced any projects related to GTA 4, so the future of a possible remaster remains a mystery. Meanwhile, Jason Zumwalt’s statements are once again fueling a debate that the community has been having for years.
