The anticipation for GTA 6 continues to grow, and the first estimates of its release paint a scenario without precedent for the video game industry. Just a few months away from its release, analysts believe that the new title from Rockstar Games could have the most successful launch week in history.
The most optimistic forecasts suggest that the game could generate up to $5 billion in its first seven days, a figure that would shatter any known record to date. According to data published by the analysis firm Newzoo, GTA 6 pre-orders have already generated around $260 million worldwide since they began just a few weeks ago.
The company has also sought to debunk some rumors that spoke of over $1 billion earned solely through pre-orders, calling those figures unrealistic. Nevertheless, current data places GTA 6 as the video game with the strongest pre-sale campaign ever recorded.
Up to $5.2 billion in one week
- Based on the current pace of pre-orders and the typical behavior of this type of launch, Newzoo calculates that GTA 6 could earn between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion during its first week on the market.
- One of the key factors would be that a large part of players would be opting for the more expensive editions of the game, which would significantly increase the average spend per user from day one.
A record that could surpass even GTA 5
To put these figures into context, Grand Theft Auto V managed to gross $1 billion in just three days after its release in 2013, setting a record that still remains one of the greatest achievements in the entertainment industry.
If current forecasts are met, GTA 6 would not only far surpass that record but could become the most profitable video game launch in history in just one week.
However, it’s worth remembering that these figures are estimates made by Newzoo and not official data from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. We’ll have to wait for the game’s release to see how accurate these predictions are, which already anticipate an unprecedented phenomenon.
