After years of silence and numerous speculations, Maverick Games has officially presented Clutch, its first project since the studio was founded by Mike Brown, former creative director of the Forza Horizon saga. The announcement puts an end to a long wait and reveals a proposal that seeks to differentiate itself from current driving games with a mix of professional competition, street racing, and cinematic action.
The studio, formed by veterans of Playground Games and Codemasters, ensures that its goal is to “break the mold of modern driving games” through an experience that combines storyline with exploration and dynamic events within a vast open world.
Clutch aims to unite Forza Horizon, Need for Speed, and the spectacle of action movies
- The adventure will be set in a recreation of the French Riviera, presented as a living world where players can participate in official races, spontaneous challenges, and confrontations against other drivers. The story will follow two prodigy brothers competing in the prestigious R1K competition, while crossing paths with the clandestine racing group known as Midnight Collective.
- One of the most striking aspects is the presence of spectacular chases, robberies, high-speed getaways, and scenes that clearly evoke big action productions. Even vehicles using special tools during chases have been shown, something unusual within the genre.
Many cars and a lot of burned rubber
In terms of the garage, models such as the Porsche 911 Turbo (930), Aston Martin Vantage, BMW 850 CSi, BMW M3 GTR, Nissan 350Z, and Land Rover Defender have already been confirmed, among others. Additionally, the customization system promises to be one of the deepest seen to date, allowing modification of both the exterior and interior of vehicles with licensed parts from real manufacturers.
Maverick Games has also confirmed that more information will be available during the Summer Game Fest this week, where a new trailer focused on the story, world, and some of the main characters will be shown. For now, Clutch is scheduled to launch in spring 2027 on Xbox Series, PC, and PlayStation 5, and is already shaping up to be one of the most interesting driving projects in the coming years.
