It’s hard to find someone in the industry who doesn’t have the release of Grand Theft Auto VI marked in red. The new Rockstar Games title is set to become the biggest release of 2026 and, probably, one of the most important video games in history. However, not everyone shares that enthusiasm.
Who has surprised with very sincere statements is Guillaume Broche, director of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The creative has publicly acknowledged that, although he’s curious to see what Rockstar achieves with GTA 6, he’s never really connected with the franchise.
“I try them, use the cheats… and then I leave them”
During a recent intervention, Broche explained that he approaches Grand Theft Auto games in a very different way than most players. According to him, what he enjoys most is experimenting with cheats, causing chaos in the city, and escaping from the police for a while. However, once that initial fun is over, he loses interest quickly.
I’m curious to see what they do, but GTA 6 is not a game that excites me. I try the GTA games, use all the cheats, and then I leave them. I don’t get them, they bore me.
The statements have quickly generated debate within the community, especially since they come from one of the most recognized developers of the moment after the success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. While millions of players are counting down the days to explore Leonida and discover the new story of Jason and Lucía, Broche makes it clear that his tastes go in a different direction.
As is logical, it’s just a personal opinion. In fact, everything points to Grand Theft Auto VI breaking sales and player records again when it arrives on November 19th. Still, it’s interesting to see that even within the industry itself, there are developers who don’t feel a special attraction to one of the most successful sagas of all time.
