The situation surrounding Destiny has taken a drastic turn for millions of players this week. Following the confirmation of the end of expansion development for Destiny 2 and the emergence of information suggesting that Destiny 3 is not even in production, the community has reacted swiftly.
In just a few hours, a petition published on Change.org calling on Sony to fund Destiny 3 has already surpassed 100,000 signatures, becoming one of the largest recent mobilizations of the Bungie shooter community. As the counter continues to rise, thousands of players are also leaving messages of support and sharing memories related to the saga.
The Destiny community presses Sony after the end of Destiny 2
The petition gained momentum after Bungie’s official announcement on May 21, which confirmed that Destiny 2 will no longer receive expansions and that Monument of Triumph, set to release on June 9, will be the game’s final major update.
Soon after, a report by journalist Jason Schreier added to the concern among fans, stating that Bungie is fully focused on Marathon, that Destiny 3 has not yet begun development, and that there is even a risk of layoffs within the studio. This has triggered a wave of reactions among players who have been part of the Guardians universe for over a decade.
The creators of the petition argue that there is still a huge demand for a new installment. According to them, Destiny 3 would allow for the introduction of new stories, mechanics, and adventures that could keep the saga alive for many more years. And given the speed at which signatures continue to increase, it’s clear that a significant part of the community is not yet ready to say goodbye to one of the most important franchises in the genre.
