During a recent interview with TBPN, Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, shared a reflection that makes clear the direction the company wants to follow in the coming years. According to the executive, Xbox innovation involves eliminating barriers between consoles and PCs, two platforms that, for him, are part of the same technological core.
“We want to innovate in system development, both for consoles and PCs. It’s curious that people think of consoles and PCs as two separate things”, Nadella stated. “We created the console because we wanted to create a better PC, one that could offer good performance in games. I’d like to rethink that idea. After all, the console experience is unparalleled. It offers unprecedented performance, which, in my opinion, drives the system forward”.
Xbox and Windows: a shared future on the horizon
Nadella’s statements align with the strategy Microsoft has been deploying for years: unifying the gaming experience across all possible devices. From the complete integration of Xbox Game Pass on PC to compatibility with Cloud Gaming and cross-platform features, the company continues to work towards making console and PC gaming essentially the same.
We created the console because we wanted to create a better PC, one that could offer good performance in games. I’d like to rethink that idea. After all, the console experience is unparalleled. It offers unprecedented performance, which, in my opinion, drives the system forward
Nadella himself also highlighted that Microsoft wants to be “a fantastic publisher, similar to what we did with Office“, thus reinforcing the intention to bring Xbox games to more platforms without abandoning its commitment to its own hardware.
These words come just as the company prepares its new generation of consoles, confirming that Xbox’s philosophy will continue to revolve around accessibility, technical innovation, and the global expansion of its gaming ecosystem.
