When it seemed like The Witcher 3 had finally closed its story after years of updates and expansions, CD Projekt RED has just surprised the entire community with a completely unexpected announcement. The studio has officially confirmed a new expansion for the RPG starring Geralt of Rivia.
The expansion will be called The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past and will put players back on the path of the most famous witcher in video games. Additionally, we already know that it will officially arrive on Xbox Series, PS5, and PC in 2027.
Songs of the Past will bring Geralt back to a new adventure in The Witcher 3
The announcement was made directly from the franchise’s official social media channels, accompanied by the message: “That medallion humming can only mean one thing“.
CD Projekt has also confirmed that development is being carried out in conjunction with the studio Fool’s Theory, a team that has previously worked with the Polish company and is currently also involved in other projects related to the Witcher universe.
For now, details about the expansion are still quite limited. No gameplay has been shown, and no concrete details about the story, regions, or content size are yet known. However, the simple fact of seeing a new official expansion of The Witcher 3 has immediately revolutionized the entire community.
- The company has made it clear that more information will be available “by the end of summer”, so everything points to the fact that over the next few months, we will begin to learn more details about this unexpected return of Geralt of Rivia.
The news comes at a particularly important time for CD Projekt RED, which continues to work on the next major Witcher game. Nevertheless, the studio seems determined to continue leveraging the enormous success and popularity that The Witcher 3 maintains even more than a decade after its original release.
