We’re nearing the end of July, and the highly anticipated November 19th release of GTA 6 is just around the corner. As a result, it’s no surprise that leaks, theories, and rumors about the most eagerly awaited game of the past few years are on the rise. This time, a piece of information claiming that the new Rockstar title will occupy 600 GB on consoles has gone viral.

This figure has sparked thousands of comments on social media, but the reality is far from it. As of today, Rockstar Games has not confirmed the file size of GTA 6, so any specific data on the installation size lacks official backing.

There’s no reason to believe GTA 6 will take up 600 GB

If there’s one thing that characterizes Rockstar, it’s their ability to create massive worlds without blowing up the game’s file size. A prime example is Red Dead Redemption 2, which weighed in at around 150 GB, including all its content.

Furthermore, current technology is on the developers’ side. Both Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 use much more efficient compression systems than the previous generation, allowing for significant reductions in file size without sacrificing high-quality textures or more complex environments.

It’s true that GTA 6 will be a much more ambitious game, with a detailed version of Leonida, more advanced simulations, and a density of elements never seen before in the series. Even so, most reasonable predictions place its installation size between 150 and 200 GB, a high but perfectly manageable figure for a release of this caliber.

With less than four months to go before its release, the best course of action is to wait for Rockstar to publish the official specifications. Until then, the supposed 600 GB file size remains an unfounded rumor that gains traction every now and then, but lacks any reliable backing.
