It seems that Microsoft is dropping hints about the future of Xbox again, this time through Sarah Bond, the division’s president, in an interview with Mashable. The executive discussed the new ROG Xbox Ally X, but her words also fueled speculation about the next-generation console.

Bond was directly asked about the rumors suggesting that the next Xbox will be more like a gaming PC. Her response, although measured, sounded like a veiled confirmation:
I can tell you that you’re right. The next console will offer a very premium, very curated experience. You can already see part of our vision reflected in this portable device, but I don’t want to reveal too much.
A more open, powerful, and Windows-ecosystem-friendly Xbox
According to journalist Tom Warren, everything points to the new Xbox running Windows as its base system, allowing for greater freedom to install and use different digital stores and maintaining full compatibility with the current catalog. This would align with Bond’s previous messages, which already hinted that Microsoft is working on an experience “not limited to a single store or device”.
- Additionally, the president recalled the multi-year agreement with AMD, confirmed in June, which will ensure a technological leap without precedent and a range of Xbox devices manufactured by third-party brands. Everything suggests that the company aims for the future of Xbox to combine high-end hardware with PC versatility, something that the ROG Xbox Ally X is already starting to show.
If Sarah Bond’s words are confirmed, the next generation could mark the biggest change in Xbox history, fully integrating console and computer into a single experience under the Microsoft brand.
