Rockstar Games has announced an important update for Grand Theft Auto V players. Starting tomorrow, those who own certain versions of the game will be able to upgrade for free to the Xbox Series edition and access all the technical improvements made over the years.
However, among the details of the announcement, there’s a nuance that’s catching the attention of the community and could affect a portion of Xbox users.
The promotion mentions the digital version of Xbox One, but not physical copies
According to Rockstar, owners of the digital version of Xbox One Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade without additional cost to the Xbox Series version. This upgrade will arrive coinciding with the preparation of the highly anticipated The Kortz Center Heist, the next major content for GTA Online.
The official description indicates that players will be able to enjoy:
- Xbox Series graphical and performance improvements
- Easy migration of Story Mode and GTA Online progress
- Access to Hao’s Special Works vehicles and upgrades
- Career Progress system rewards
- The latest features added to GTA Online
Physical disc owners may not be able to upgrade (at least for now).
- What’s interesting is that Rockstar uses different wording for PlayStation. In the case of Sony, the company talks about “any PS4 version”, while for Xbox, they specifically mention the “Xbox One digital version”.
This difference has raised doubts among players who still own a physical copy of GTA V for Xbox One. For now, Rockstar hasn’t publicly clarified whether those users will be able to benefit from the free upgrade or if the promotion will be limited exclusively to those who purchased the game in digital format.
As more details emerge, the recommendation for physical edition owners is to stay tuned to Rockstar’s official communications. The free upgrade will begin tomorrow, but the fine print of the announcement suggests that not all Xbox players may receive the same treatment.
