Every so often, the same rumor resurfaces: GTA 6 will occupy a ton of GB. In recent hours, this figure has spread again through social media and some videos, causing many players to wonder if they’ll have to dedicate almost their entire console’s SSD to the highly anticipated Rockstar game.
However, to this day, there is no official information to support this figure. Rockstar Games has not yet published the storage requirements for GTA 6, so any data circulating should be considered mere speculation.
How much could GTA 6 really occupy?
Although it’s impossible to know the final size until Rockstar announces it, we can make an estimate based on the studio’s most recent games and current technology. The best example is still Red Dead Redemption 2, whose installation was around 150 GB including all its content. Since then, both Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 have incorporated much more efficient compression systems, capable of reducing the space occupied by many files without affecting visual quality.
It’s true that GTA 6 will offer a much more ambitious world, with a higher density of characters, better textures, more advanced simulation systems, and a huge amount of content. All of this will make its installation considerable, but there are no solid indications pointing to the 600 GB that some users are sharing.
- In fact, the most reasonable estimates place the game between 150 and 200 GB, a high figure, but completely acceptable within the standards of today’s major releases.
It’s worth making space
With Grand Theft Auto VI scheduled for November 19th, it’s recommended to review your console’s free space over the next few weeks, especially if you’re used to having several large titles installed.
Until Rockstar publishes the official specifications, any figure should be taken with caution. The only thing that seems clear is that GTA 6 will be one of the largest games of this generation, but there is no evidence to suggest it will require 600 GB of storage.
