Although everything pointed to Avowed 2 being completely scrapped after Microsoft’s recent reorganization, a new report brings a glimmer of hope. According to Jason Schreier, a Bloomberg journalist with a proven track record of accurate leaks, Obsidian Entertainment hasn’t entirely abandoned the idea of developing a sequel to their RPG.
This news comes just days after it was revealed that Xbox has decided to prioritize franchises like Fallout, a strategy that would have directly impacted the studio’s plans. However, the future of Avowed might not be as bleak as it seemed.
A small team is still working on Avowed 2
During a recent Q&A session, Schreier explained that a small group of developers is still working on Avowed 2, even after the project lost its initial backing from Microsoft.
According to the journalist, Obsidian’s intention is to advance as far as possible in the game’s development while part of the studio collaborates on other projects, especially the future of Fallout. The goal would be to present a much more advanced version of the game to try to convince Xbox to officially reactivate its production.
Schreier claims that the project was further along than many would imagine for a sequel to a relatively recent game, which would make it easier to recover if it finally gets the green light.
For now, Microsoft has not confirmed this information, so it should be treated as a rumor based on sources close to the development. Still, for those who enjoyed Avowed, these statements provide a reason to hold on to hope. If Obsidian can demonstrate that the sequel can be completed with a contained investment, Avowed 2 might still have a second chance.
