After years of complicated development, delays, and many doubts surrounding the project, Pragmata has finally concluded by becoming one of the most surprising launches from Capcom in recent times. The game has received a very positive reception from both critics and players, thanks to its blend of science fiction, action, and mechanics that are quite different from the usual fare in the Japanese company’s catalog.
The success seems to have been significant enough for Capcom to start looking far beyond the initial launch. The company has made it clear in recent hours that it considers Pragmata an intellectual property with tremendous future potential and that the intention is to continue investing in it over the next few years. This comes at a particularly positive time for Capcom, which is going through another strong phase thanks to the performance of franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and other recent major releases.
Capcom considers Pragmata a new important saga for the future
During a recent conference held in Las Vegas, Rob Dyer, COO of Capcom USA, spoke directly about the commercial success of Pragmata and the role this new IP will play in the company’s future strategy. The executive explained that Capcom currently has an increasingly wide catalog of important franchises and that Pragmata represents one of those new paths they want to continue exploring.
The initial figures seem to fully support this idea. According to data shared by the company itself, Pragmata managed to surpass one million copies sold in just two days since its launch, which is especially notable considering it’s a completely new license that also underwent a lengthy development process after its original announcement in 2020.
- Capcom also wanted to highlight the enormous joint effort between its Japanese and American teams over the past few years. According to Dyer, much of the project’s success came from multiple internal tests, demos, and feedback sessions that helped perfect the experience before the final launch.
Although there is no official announcement of Pragmata 2 yet, the statements make it clear that Capcom is already seriously considering the possibility of turning this new IP into another of its major long-term franchises.
