While players wait for the release of the first generation of Xbox Ally devices, ASUS has taken advantage of Computex 2026 to showcase a new variant that targets those seeking an even more advanced portable experience. This is the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a revision that maintains the philosophy of the original model but introduces significant changes to some of its most in-demand components.
The most notable novelty comes in the form of the screen. After years of ASUS defending the advantages of LCD panels for this type of device, the company has finally made the leap to OLED, a feature that many users had been demanding for the Ally line.
The Xbox Ally X20 bets on a 7.4-inch OLED screen
The new handheld features a 7.4-inch OLED screen with Full HD resolution, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and compatibility with FreeSync Premium Pro. ASUS also claims that the panel reaches a maximum brightness of 1,400 nits, a figure especially high for a device of these characteristics.
- Along with the new screen, we find other improvements such as joysticks with TMR technology, designed to reduce wear and minimize drift problems, a transformable crosshair capable of alternating between 4 and 8 direction configurations, new front buttons with optimized travel, and rubber grips to improve comfort during long gaming sessions.
- One of the most striking aspects of the announcement is that ASUS had previously explained the technical and economic difficulties of integrating an OLED screen into the Ally line, especially due to compatibility with VRR and thermal management. To resolve this, the company claims to have completely redesigned the cooling system, increasing airflow around the APU and screen.
For now, ASUS has not confirmed either the release date or the price of the new ROG Xbox Ally X20, although considering that the Xbox Ally X is already priced near $1,000, everything suggests that this new model will be in an even higher price range. At Generación Xbox, we will be attentive to future announcements to find out when this new portable Xbox-branded device will hit the market.
