The latest financial results from Microsoft have made it clear that Xbox is still going through a tough time in several key areas of the business. And now, Asha Sharma herself has spoken openly about the current state of the brand.
The new head of Xbox acknowledges that, despite some internal progress and improvements in business margins, the company is still not achieving the level of growth it had hoped for in terms of players and revenue.
Asha Sharma admits that Xbox still has “a lot of work to do”
Following the release of Microsoft’s fiscal third-quarter results for 2026, Sharma left a straightforward message about the current state of Xbox:
Although we’ve made progress in expanding the business and our margins, player and revenue growth has not yet met our ambition.
The executive also made it clear that Microsoft is fully aware of the situation and that there’s still a long way to go:
We know we have work to do to earn every player today and in the future.
These statements come just after the latest financial figures for Xbox were released. Despite this, Microsoft continues to defend that this new era under Sharma’s leadership will serve to redefine the future of Xbox. Over the past few weeks, we’ve already seen several significant moves related to:
- The “We are Xbox” strategy
- Internal identity changes
- A greater focus on hardware and community
- New decisions surrounding Game Pass
- Future plans like Project Helix
The feeling is that Microsoft wants to accelerate significant changes within Xbox over the next few years to try to regain growth and strengthen its connection with the brand’s most loyal players.
Xbox earnings today. While we have made progress expanding the business and our margins, player and revenue growth has not yet met our ambition. We know we have work to do to earn every player today and into the future.
