A PS Vita converted into an XBOX

The modder scene is once again proving that creativity knows no bounds. Despite being a console with almost fifteen years under its belt, PlayStation Vita is still receiving projects that can surprise even the most seasoned fans. This time, the goal wasn’t to upgrade the hardware of Sony’s handheld, but to open the doors to the Xbox ecosystem.

What was once thought impossible just a few years ago is now a reality, thanks to the community’s hard work. Several developers have managed to make the portable console access Microsoft’s cloud gaming service, essentially turning it into a miniature Xbox capable of running current-gen titles via streaming.

GreenVita brings Xbox Cloud Gaming to PlayStation Vita

The project is called GreenVita and consists of a community-created application that enables access to Xbox Cloud Gaming on a modified PlayStation Vita. Of course, the console doesn’t run games natively, as its hardware is far from being able to handle Xbox One or Xbox Series titles.

• The key is cloud gaming. Thanks to this app, users can log in to Microsoft’s service and access the catalog compatible with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, streaming games directly to the Sony handheld.
• The first videos shared by the community show a remarkably smooth performance for a device launched in 2011. This opens the door to enjoying modern titles available on Xbox Cloud Gaming on the PS Vita, as well as future releases that arrive on the service on the same day as their launch.

To use GreenVita, you’ll need a modified PlayStation Vita, install the app, have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and a stable internet connection. As with these types of projects, this is a community-created development, not an official solution backed by Microsoft or Sony.

Beyond the technical curiosity, this project once again highlights the enormous versatility of Xbox Cloud Gaming, a service that continues to expand gaming possibilities on devices it was never originally designed for.
