After several adaptations with uneven results, the universe of The Walking Dead will return to video games with a completely different proposal from the previous ones. Instead of betting on third-person action or narrative adventures, the new project will recover the spirit of classic side-scrolling arcade games.
The game has been officially presented under the name of The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival and will arrive on Xbox with an aesthetic that combines 3D scenarios with pixel art characters.
Rick, Daryl, and Michonne will fight together against the Saviors
The adventure will be inspired by the AMC television series and not by the original Robert Kirkman comics. The protagonists will be Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne, each with their own weapons, special moves, and attack combinations.
The story will take place during the Alexandria storyline and will pit players against Negan’s Saviors. Throughout the campaign, it will be possible to explore places like Alexandria, Hilltop, or the Sanctuary, the villain’s main base.
The developers have also confirmed several boss battles inspired by memorable moments from the series. Among them, Winslow stands out, the fearsome walker covered in blades that put Rick in serious trouble in one of the most famous episodes.
The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival is scheduled for release in fall 2026 on Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, PC players can already try a free demo on Steam, offering a first look at this curious reinterpretation of one of the most popular zombie franchises in entertainment.
