The price of hardware is once again stirring up debate in the industry following the recent price hike of PlayStation 5, which has raised its official figures in Europe to levels that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. This move not only affects the present but is also conditioning what we can expect from the next generation of consoles.
With the new economic context and the rising cost of components, several analysts are starting to look to the future with some concern. The idea of more expensive consoles no longer sounds far-fetched, but rather increasingly plausible.
PS6 and the next Xbox could exceed 1,000 euros, according to analysts
- Different voices in the industry agree that the price of the next generation could rise significantly. Among them, analyst Dr. Serkan Toto points out that it wouldn’t be unreasonable to see a PlayStation 6 nearing $999 in one of its versions.
- A similar line is followed by Joost van Dreunen, professor and researcher, who believes that $1,000 consoles could become the norm, especially if global economic tensions and component costs continue to rise.
On the Xbox side, all of this also directly affects the future of Xbox Helix, which would be part of Microsoft’s new hardware generation. Although there are no official figures, the scenario suggests that no company would be immune to this trend.
Even analyst Mat Piscatella acknowledges that this scenario is possible, although he leaves the door open for market conditions to improve before the launch. For now, the only certainty is that the price of hardware is changing, and with it, what it means to access the next generation of consoles.
