The situation surrounding Bungie continues to be quite delicate following the latest news related to the future of Destiny 2 and the studio’s total focus on Marathon. While part of the community continues to show frustration over the end of support for the Guardians’ shooter, one of the voices involved in Marathon has now publicly spoken out about the controversy.
In particular, the voice director of Bungie’s new game openly acknowledged that he understands the upset of many Destiny 2 players. And seeing the reaction unfolding on social media, it’s clear that within Bungie itself, they’re aware of the current tension.
Marathon team understands Destiny 2 players’ anger
According to the voice director of Marathon, fans have the right to feel disappointed about how the situation at Bungie has evolved over the past few months. Especially after the confirmation of the end of major expansions for Destiny 2 and reports claiming that Destiny 3 isn’t even in development.
- However, he also wanted to send a direct message to those wishing for Marathon to fail simply as a reaction to the studio’s change in priorities. In his words, players can simply “vote with their wallet,” i.e., decide not to buy the game if they disagree with the direction Bungie is taking.
The comment comes at one of the most tense moments the company has experienced in years. As Marathon tries to make its way as the studio’s future bet, part of the community still sees the project as a symbol of the gradual abandonment of Destiny.
And that’s probably Bungie’s biggest challenge right now: convincing players that Marathon can coexist with Destiny’s legacy without automatically becoming responsible for the end of one of the most important sagas on Xbox and PlayStation over the past decade.
