Shenmue III is getting a second life in the market. Publisher ININ Games has confirmed that Shenmue III Enhanced will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2026 on Xbox Series, offering a revised version of the game originally released in 2019.

This new edition aims to improve the overall experience of the game created by Yu Suzuki, incorporating technical optimizations and changes that seek to make the game more fluid and accessible without losing its original essence. Additionally, those who already have the game will be able to update to this new version.

An enhanced version with technical and gameplay adjustments

Among the most notable new features of Shenmue III Enhanced are visual improvements and adjustments to various game systems.

• The new version will feature 4K resolution textures, performance improvements, and compatibility with technologies like DLSS and FSR, allowing for better utilization of current hardware. The NPC density in the world has also been increased, making the scenarios feel more alive.

Another new feature will be the incorporation of a classic camera inspired by Shenmue I and II, which will coexist with the modern camera. This is in addition to changes in the interaction system, adjustments in gameplay, and improvements to menus and interfaces.

The developers have also confirmed that many of these improvements can be activated or deactivated, allowing players to choose between a modernized experience or one that is more faithful to the original game.

Physical editions with content for fans

Alongside this new version, several physical editions have been announced, which can already be pre-ordered. The game will be available in Standard Edition, Special Edition, and Collector’s Edition.

The Special Edition will include an artbook with illustrations and a documentary on Blu-ray about Yu Suzuki, which reviews his career in the video game industry.

The Collector’s Edition will add several collectible items, including a figure of Ryo training, kung fu cards, a poster, stickers, a keychain, and a decorative parchment with game moves.

• Additionally, it has been confirmed that the physical version for Nintendo Switch 2 will include the complete game on cartridge, something that many players value highly.

With Shenmue III Enhanced, the publisher aims to offer a more complete and polished version of the game, adapted to current hardware and designed for both new players and fans of the series who want to return to Ryo Hazuki’s adventure.
