As Bethesda continues to focus on its current major projects, doubts are starting to arise about who will actually be in charge of Fallout 5. The studio is intensely working on The Elder Scrolls VI and continues to expand content for Starfield, leaving a pretty packed schedule for the next few years.
In this context, a former Bethesda developer has raised the possibility that the next installment of the saga may not be developed directly by the main studio. The idea isn’t far-fetched, considering the company’s current size and its growing collaboration with other teams.
A former developer thinks it’s possible that Fallout 5 could be handled by another studio
During an interview on the YouTube channel Kiwi Talkz, Jonah Lobe, a former Bethesda artist known for designing the iconic Deathclaw, commented that he wouldn’t be surprised if the development of Fallout 5 were to be delegated to an external studio.
- According to Lobe, Bethesda is now a much larger company than it was years ago and is working more and more with associated teams, so outsourcing part of the development could be a logical solution while the main studio focuses on other projects.
- One of the reasons is the enormous weight that The Elder Scrolls VI currently carries within Bethesda. Expectations surrounding this RPG are extremely high, and a large part of the studio’s resources are being poured into its development.
This wouldn’t be the first time something like this has happened within the saga. In the past, Bethesda entrusted the development of Fallout: New Vegas to Obsidian, a game that over time has become one of the most memorable installments for fans. This precedent makes some players think that something similar could happen again in the future with Fallout 5.
