In recent hours, an unexpected movement has taken place within the Xbox ecosystem. Fallout Shelter has been removed from the Microsoft Store without prior notice, preventing new users from downloading the game and accessing its content on Xbox.
The information was made public through TrueAchievements, which detected the game’s removal and its direct impact on players who had not previously claimed it. From now on, those who do not already have it in their library will not be able to play it or unlock its achievements on Xbox.
This situation is particularly striking considering that Fallout Shelter remains available on other platforms, such as Steam, PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop, and mobile devices. The Xbox version is, for the time being, the only one that has disappeared from digital stores.
Bethesda has not provided explanations for the removal
As far as is known, Bethesda has not officially communicated the reasons for this decision. It’s not the first time the game has temporarily disappeared from the store: in October, it was removed along with other titles due to a Unity-related issue, although on that occasion, it became available again a few days later.
- However, in this case, everything points to something different. Players have been reporting for months that the Xbox and PC versions had severe bugs, with constant freezes and crashes on the loading screen, which could have led Bethesda to remove the game to address these technical issues. For now, this has not been confirmed.
TrueAchievements has contacted Bethesda to request clarification, and the situation remains pending an official response. It’s particularly striking that this removal occurs at a time when the Fallout franchise is once again very present thanks to the success of the TV series, which could have attracted new players to the title.
We’ll have to wait and see if Fallout Shelter returns to the Microsoft Store or if this is a permanent removal on Xbox. In the meantime, new players are left without one of the most popular free experiences in the Fallout universe on console.
