After years of delays, studio changes, and internal restarts, Ubisoft has officially canceled the project, and the responsible team has chosen to address the players directly to apologize for the decision.

Announced in late 2020 and initially scheduled for 2021, the remake went through several hands and deep revisions without managing to establish a clear direction. This process, far from streamlining it, ultimately prolonged the development to an unsustainable point.

Ubisoft acknowledges development issues and shuts down the project

In a message posted on social media, the developers explain that the cancellation was a difficult but inevitable decision. The team admits that they failed to find the right creative vision to reinterpret a game as beloved as this one, and that continuing would have required much more time and a larger investment than initially planned.

Despite this, Ubisoft has made it clear that they are not abandoning the Prince of Persia franchise, emphasizing that the legacy of the series lives on and that this cancellation does not mark the end of the brand.

Regarding the internal context, journalist Tom Henderson has provided additional information. According to his sources, Ubisoft’s original plan was to launch the remake on January 16, 2026, with a marketing campaign set to begin in December 2025. However, in the same month, the team requested more time to complete the game, leading to an internal delay until the end of March. Finally, in mid-January, Ubisoft opted to cancel the project definitively.

For Xbox players, the news means the closure of one of the most anticipated remakes in Ubisoft’s classic catalog. A project with great potential that, after years of attempts, failed to reach the finish line.
