In recent hours, a particularly suggestive rumor has emerged that points to GTA 6 Online possibly going much further than what we know so far, even approaching the structure of an MMORPG.
The comment comes from Rich Vogel, a veteran of online development who has worked on titles like Ultima Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, or New World. In an interview with WCFTech, Vogel reflected on the current state of the genre and ended up pointing directly to Grand Theft Auto VI.
According to the developer, the market has been waiting for years for a new major reference in the genre, but major publishers don’t seem willing to take the economic risk that a large-scale MMORPG implies. In that context, Vogel dropped a phrase that hasn’t gone unnoticed:
If what I’ve heard about the features and gameplay of GTA 6 is true, it could evolve into an MMORPG, since many of its planned features fit perfectly with that type of game.
A deeper and more ambitious online experience than ever
Rockstar Games hasn’t shown anything official yet about the online mode of GTA 6, and there haven’t been any clear leaks about its structure. That’s precisely why Vogel’s words are drawing attention, as they suggest he may have had access to internal information or industry conversations.
The idea of a GTA Online with deeper persistent systems, advanced progression, large-scale social interaction, and dynamic events would fit with the natural evolution of the service that Rockstar has kept alive for over a decade. If something like that were confirmed, we’d be looking at the biggest conceptual leap in the saga’s multiplayer aspect.
For now, it all remains in the realm of rumor. The only confirmed thing is that GTA 6 will arrive next November, and that its online component will once again be key to the franchise’s future. If Rockstar is indeed aiming for an approach close to an MMORPG, the anticipation would only multiply.
