Reggie Fils-Aimé, former president of Nintendo of America, has expressed his surprise at Microsoft’s lack of movement to bring their games to the Switch 2. In a recent interview with The Game Business, the former executive stated that he expected an official announcement from Xbox regarding their presence on the new hybrid console, especially after the collaboration agreements between the two companies in recent years.
“Throughout the fall, I fully expected some kind of dedicated announcement,” Fils-Aimé explains. “I’m surprised that Xbox hasn’t fully adopted Switch 2 from a software perspective. Some games could be easily ported and haven’t been. I thought we’d see a lot more, especially during this pre-holiday period.”
Xbox and Nintendo: A Potential Expanded Alliance
Although Xbox and Nintendo have a cordial and collaborative relationship, especially with titles like Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Cuphead coming to Switch, Fils-Aimé believes there’s still room for Microsoft to expand its multi-platform catalog.
With Switch 2 now available and a market that’s likely to coexist with Xbox Series for several years, it wouldn’t be surprising if some Xbox Studios titles end up on Nintendo’s console, something Phil Spencer hasn’t ruled out in the past.
For now, there’s no official confirmation of any Xbox games coming to Nintendo’s new platform, but anticipation continues to build towards a possible announcement before the end of the year.
