Gamers’ habits are changing, and portability has become an essential part of daily life. In response to this trend, ASUS and Microsoft joined forces to create the ROG Xbox Ally X, a portable console designed to offer PC power and total gaming freedom, regardless of platform.
This approach has been recognized by TIME magazine, which has included the device in its prestigious list of the Best Inventions of 2025. It’s no coincidence: the portable console represents one of the most ambitious collaborations between the two companies, combining high-performance hardware with the Xbox ecosystem experience.
ROG Xbox Ally X: A Bridge Between Xbox and PC
The idea behind the project was clear from the start. As Jason Beaumont, Vice President of Xbox Experiences at Microsoft, explained:
It would have been easy to create another walled garden, but gamers wanted to be able to enjoy their games regardless of where they came from.
The result is a machine capable of running compatible titles from your entire Xbox or PC library, with support for Game Pass and full access to third-party stores thanks to Windows 11. In other words, you can switch between games from Steam, Epic Games Store, or the Xbox App without limitations.
The device is set to launch in a few days, and it stands out for its power, improved thermal design, and larger battery capacity compared to the original model. TIME’s choice as one of the best inventions of the year highlights the impact the ROG Xbox Ally X has had as a symbol of hybrid gaming between consoles and PC.
