Last week, pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally X opened, the new portable console resulting from the collaboration between ASUS and Xbox. As expected, the most powerful model sold out in a matter of hours in the United States, causing a common phenomenon in high-demand hardware launches: resale.

While in European markets like Spain it’s still possible to reserve the console at its official price of €899.99, in the United States, the stock quickly disappeared from the Microsoft Store and major retailers. The result didn’t take long to arrive: on portals like eBay, ads began to appear with the Ally X resold for more than double its price, exceeding $2,000 in some cases. There have even been listings close to $2,500, a figure far above the $999 launch price.

This scenario is not new in the tech industry, where each launch of consoles or highly anticipated hardware often brings stock problems and speculators willing to inflate prices.
