BioShock 4 is facing serious development issues and the remake of the original would have been cancelled

Although many were expecting news about BioShock 4 this year, the latest information points in the opposite direction. According to journalist Jason Schreier, the new title in the series is facing serious difficulties, and the worst part is that it’s not alone: a remake of the original BioShock has also been internally canceled.

The data comes from a report published by Bloomberg, which states that BioShock 4 has not passed a recent executive review by Take-Two and 2K. As a result, the leadership of Cloud Chamber studio has been restructured, directly affecting key figures in the project.

Internal changes, game rewritten, and doubts about the future

Kelley Gilmore, until now the studio director, has been relocated to an editorial position within the company. The same has happened with Hogarth de la Plante, creative director, who has also lost his main role in the game. According to the leaked information, the recent analysis of the project left a bad taste in the mouths of 2K’s top executives, which has led to a significant review of the game’s overall approach, including adjustments to the story.

The publisher has asked the team to be “more agile and efficient”, which has caused concern among developers, especially due to fears of possible layoffs.

In statements to Bloomberg, 2K has sought to convey calm, stating that “we have a good game now, but we are committed to creating an excellent one”, making it clear that the project is still ongoing, but still far from being ready to see the light of day.

As an additional note, the same report indicates that the remake of BioShock 1, never officially announced, has also been internally canceled, which eliminates one of the rumors that had generated the most hope among the series’ most veteran fans.
