The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has surpassed 9 million players since its release, an impressive figure that demonstrates the game’s enduring popularity almost two decades after its original debut. The milestone was shared by Bethesda through their official social media channels, accompanied by a heartfelt message for all those who’ve ever walked the lands of Cyrodiil.

“To all those who emerged as heroes of Kvatch, reached the rank of Archmage, became Champions of the Arena, expelled the Blackwood Company, ran as the Gray Fox, and listened to the Night: thank you for sharing our worlds,” says Bethesda’s message, directly referencing the game’s most iconic moments.

Released this year as a complete remaster for Xbox Series, PS5, and PC, Oblivion Remastered has managed to significantly improve its performance, graphics, and mod compatibility, while maintaining the freedom, exploration, and depth that made it a western RPG icon. Additionally, the game is available on Xbox Game Pass, which has further boosted its reach among new players.

With The Elder Scrolls VI still in development and without a release date, these types of re-releases help keep the flame of a historic saga alive. And seeing the impact of Oblivion Remastered, it wouldn’t be surprising if Bethesda sets its sights on Morrowind in the not-too-distant future.
