Nightdive Studios has finally confirmed the release date of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on consoles. After announcing a few days ago that the game would not arrive on time on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch due to technical issues, the studio has revealed that this remastered edition of the classic will be available on consoles on July 10, 2025.
The PC version, on the other hand, keeps its original release date of June 26 and will launch on platforms like Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Humble. In contrast, the versions for Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS4, PS5, and Switch have been delayed by almost two weeks compared to the initial plan.
System Shock 2 Remaster will arrive on Xbox on July 10 after a brief delay
The studio has explained in a statement that they have encountered unexpected obstacles during the console adaptation process. Although the exact reasons have not been detailed, they have assured that they are working actively to guarantee a solid experience on all platforms. The delay, although brief, has forced them to adjust the planned schedule.
The remastered version celebrates the 25th anniversary of the original release with a series of visual and gameplay improvements:
-
Improved graphics with new textures, 3D models, and support for 4K and 60 fps
-
Adapted controls for console controllers, with a revised interface
-
Quality of life improvements: quick saving, direct access to menus, accessibility
-
Full compatibility on Xbox One and Xbox Series
Additionally, it includes all the original content and will be available in digital format with a price yet to be confirmed.
A carefully crafted version for one of the most influential games in the genre
System Shock 2 is considered one of the great references in the history of PC gaming, and its legacy extends to games like BioShock, Prey, or Dead Space. This remastering not only seeks to update the technical aspect but also to make the experience more accessible without losing its essence.
The delay on consoles represents only a slight modification to the schedule, but it will allow for a more optimized version to be enjoyed on Xbox.
