Xbox confirms a new price increase for its consoles and announces changes in its catalog

Microsoft has announced a new price update for Xbox consoles that will take effect on August 1, 2026. The company justifies this decision due to the significant increase in the cost of components such as memory and storage, a situation that, according to them, affects the entire tech industry and has worsened over the past few months.

In addition to the price hike, Xbox has confirmed that one of the current models will be discontinued, while new initiatives will be launched to make it easier to purchase their consoles.

Xbox Series will be more expensive starting in August

According to Microsoft, prices will increase as follows:

• The 512 GB models will go up by $100.
• The 1 TB models will see a price increase of $150.
• The 2 TB console will be discontinued.

The company notes that they already raised prices last October and had hoped not to have to do so again. However, they claim that the cost of memory and storage has multiplied by 2.5 and that forecasts point to another increase in 2027.

Microsoft also highlights that, unlike other electronic devices such as smartphones or laptops, consoles are often sold with very low margins or even below their manufacturing cost, recovering that investment later through game and service sales.

Along with this announcement, Xbox has introduced several measures to make their consoles more accessible, including new interest-free financing options, used console buyback programs with partner retailers, and a greater push for certified refurbished consoles.

The company also emphasizes that the Xbox Series S will remain the most affordable entry point for enjoying some of the biggest upcoming releases, including Grand Theft Auto VI, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
