As rumors about Xbox’s restructuring and the future of several Bethesda studios continue, one studio seems to be staying out of the uncertainty. MachineGames, the team behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, would still have Microsoft’s absolute trust and would already be focused on their next big project.
According to new information shared by Jez Corden, a journalist from Windows Central, the highly anticipated Wolfenstein 3 is not only moving forward, but it would be one of Xbox’s major bets for the coming years.
MachineGames would have Xbox’s full support
According to the report, Microsoft would be increasing its investment in MachineGames after the success of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The Swedish studio has not yet officially announced what their next game will be, but there have been numerous hints pointing to the return of BJ Blazkowicz for some time.
Jez Corden claims that Wolfenstein 3 is the project currently occupying the team and that Xbox considers its development a priority. Additionally, the company would have a very specific goal: to coincide the game’s release with the upcoming Wolfenstein TV series being prepared by Amazon, following a strategy similar to what has been seen recently with other major franchises.
If these plans ultimately come to fruition, Microsoft would aim to turn Wolfenstein into a brand with a simultaneous presence in video games and television, taking advantage of the momentum that this type of production has given to other licenses in recent years.
For now, neither Xbox, nor Bethesda, nor MachineGames have officially confirmed that Wolfenstein 3 is in development, so it’s best to take this information with caution. However, the support the studio would receive and the intention to complete BJ Blazkowicz’s story make the saga’s return seem increasingly likely. For many Xbox players, it would be one of the most anticipated pieces of news in years.
