New financial documents have confirmed that Dead Island 3 is in active development and that its release is scheduled for early 2028, marking the next big step for the action and survival saga. This information is not new, as it was officially confirmed earlier this year in September that the game was in development, what it didn’t have was a release window.
The information comes from recently detected internal documentation, where the project is explicitly mentioned and it is ensured that its production “is progressing at a good pace”, making it clear that it is not in an early conceptual phase, but rather in an already ongoing development.
Dead Island 3 advances in production and already has an approximate release window
According to the documents, several parts of the game have entered early production, including the design of mechanics, characters, world, and storyline. The internal calendar sets the release between the first and second quarter of 2028, which would mean a wait of five years regarding the previous installment.
The project is in the hands of Dambuster Studios, the same team that took over Dead Island 2 after assuming development in 2019. In fact, the studio itself hinted earlier this year that the universe of the saga was far from over, suggesting that “the outbreak is far from over“.
- If the deadlines are met, Dead Island 3 would arrive after a much more stable period for the franchise, far from the chaotic development that its predecessor suffered, originally announced in 2014 and finally released in 2023. Everything indicates that Deep Silver wants to consolidate the series with a new, more ambitious installment and a more orderly production from the start.
For now, there are no details about platforms or first images, but with development already underway, it seems clear that Dead Island will return to the forefront of the zombie genre in the next generation.
