A little over a month after its early release, Halo: Campaign Evolved is starting to show how it will perform on the new Unreal Engine. The first technical analyses of a pre-release version of the game suggest that Xbox Series X will be able to run this highly anticipated remasterization with very solid performance, even using some of the most advanced graphics technologies.
Although it’s still a development build and some aspects may change before release, the data known so far offers a pretty interesting first look at the game’s technical aspects.
How Halo: Campaign Evolved works on Xbox Series X
According to the technical analysis by Digital Foundry, the current Xbox Series X version runs in Performance mode at 60 frames per second, maintaining very high stability even in the most demanding scenes.
Among the most notable technical details, we find:
| Feature | Current State |
|---|---|
| Available Mode | Performance |
| Frame Rate | 60 FPS stable |
| Quality Mode | Confirmed for the final version |
| Resolution | Dynamic scaling |
| Internal Resolution | Between 50% and 75% of the output resolution |
| Ray Tracing | Yes, via hardware |
| Graphics Engine | Unreal Engine |
- To maintain those 60 FPS, the game uses a dynamic resolution system that usually sits around an equivalent close to 1080p internal, although the final image maintains good quality thanks to the reconstruction techniques used by the graphics engine.
- Additionally, the development team applies an independent system for transparent effects, reducing the resolution of elements like smoke, particles, or explosions only when necessary to free up resources, without affecting the sharpness of the rest of the scene.
How it runs on ROG Xbox Ally X
As for the rest of the platforms, the situation is still provisional. The Xbox Series S version is not yet ready to be shown publicly, while the PC edition has already been able to run on portable devices like the ROG Xbox Ally X, where it currently moves between 30 and 40 FPS with the graphics configuration set to Very Low.
It’s worth remembering that all these tests correspond to a pre-release version and that there are still several weeks of optimization left. Even so, the first technical data suggests that Halo: Campaign Evolved could become one of the best examples of Unreal Engine’s potential within the Xbox ecosystem.
