The release of Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19th has caused an unusual effect in the industry. Several studios have chosen to change their release dates to avoid coinciding with one of the most anticipated video games of all time, leaving a surprisingly clear calendar for that month.
However, not all have opted to step aside. Some companies are sticking to their planned releases in November and will try to find their place alongside Rockstar’s massive launch, betting on very different proposals that aim to attract a different type of audience.
Games that will share a release month with GTA 6
- Highlanders – A new action-adventure proposal that will be one of the few major novelties to coincide with the release of GTA 6.
- Barbie Rewind – A collection of 16 minigames inspired by the famous doll, with a clearly family-friendly focus and a style far removed from Rockstar’s.
- Hasbro Games Junior Collection – A compilation of classic board games adapted to digital format and targeted at a younger audience.
- Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered – The classic kaiju game returns with improved graphics, allowing players to control giant monsters like Godzilla or King Ghidorah as they destroy entire cities.
Although none of these releases directly compete with the target audience of Grand Theft Auto VI, sharing the spotlight with a phenomenon of such magnitude poses a significant commercial challenge. The anticipation surrounding Rockstar’s new game suggests that much of the gamers’ attention will be focused on it during the first few weeks after its release.
However, betting on very different genres can become the best strategy to carve out a niche in a month that, unless there’s a last-minute surprise, will be dominated by one of the most important releases in video game history.
