The classic The Simpsons: Hit & Run, one of the most beloved video games based on the popular animated series, could return someday. At least, that’s what Matt Selman, executive producer linked to the project, has hinted in a recent interview.

During a conversation with People, Selman talked about the game’s legacy and the enormous affection it still receives from the community, something that has kept the conversation about a possible remake or even a new installment alive.

A cult game that’s still very much alive

Originally released in 2003, The Simpsons: Hit & Run quickly became a cult classic thanks to its mix of open-world gameplay, humor, and constant references to the series, something many compared to a parody of Grand Theft Auto set in Springfield.

Nothing is set in stone. I think about what the future could hold and what could happen with The Simpsons: Hit & Run. We know it’s a very beloved game… so yes, if people really want it, never say never.

Over the years, the game has maintained a very active community that continues to ask for a remake or remastering for current platforms.

According to Selman, the fact that the game is still so fondly remembered by players is a positive sign for any possible return in the future. Although there’s no official project confirmed, the producer acknowledges that the constant interest from fans shows that the idea of returning to Springfield in a video game still has a lot of potential.

For now, fans of the classic will have to wait and see if this beloved adventure returns someday to PC and modern consoles.
