Although the new Switch 2 has just landed in the market with better performance than its predecessor, some multi-platform titles have already begun to test its performance against current consoles. One of the most striking cases is Hogwarts Legacy, whose new version has been compared by Digital Foundry on three platforms: Switch 2, PS4, and Xbox Series S. The results leave no room for doubt.
Despite certain developers, such as Koei Tecmo, having stated that Switch 2 offers similar performance to Xbox Series S, the technical reality seems to be different. At least in the case of this Avalanche game, the version for the Microsoft console offers a notably more advanced experience than Nintendo’s new hybrid console.
The comparison with Hogwarts Legacy makes it clear that Series S remains a very solid option
- The analysis by Digital Foundry highlights that Xbox Series S clearly outperforms Switch 2 in several aspects, including texture quality, drawing distance, and overall performance stability. Although the Microsoft console has less RAM than Switch 2, its architecture allows for much smoother gameplay, with more effects and better graphics settings.
The guys at DF point out that the Switch 2 version is closer to the PS4 edition than to the Series S version, which raises questions about its comparison as a next-generation system in some contexts. Nevertheless, it is recognized that the improvement over the original Switch is considerable, but it falls far short of the technical standard proposed by even the most affordable Xbox console.
Although they are not directly comparable platforms — due to their hybrid concept — this type of test once again highlights the excellent value for money of Xbox Series S, especially in demanding games like Hogwarts Legacy.
