In recent hours, messages have been circulating on social media claiming that Grand Theft Auto VI will occupy 600 GB of storage. The figure has generated concern among many players, especially those with limited-capacity consoles, but the truth is that there is no official information to support that data.

Rockstar Games has not yet revealed how much space the game installation will require. However, if we analyze the studio’s precedents and the technology used in the current generation, it’s possible to make a much more realistic estimate.

Everything points to a size between 100 and 150 GB

The best reference point remains Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar’s last major release. On consoles, it occupied around 150 GB, including online mode, a figure that was already considerable at the time.

In the case of Grand Theft Auto VI, current consoles have much more efficient compression systems, such as BCPack on Xbox Series, capable of reducing file size without compromising visual quality. At the same time, the new game will use more detailed textures, a much larger city, and a higher level of simulation, so it will also require more space.

For all these reasons, most estimates place the size of GTA 6 between 150 and 200 GB, a high figure, but far from the 600 GB that have been spread on the internet.

This doesn’t mean it’s not recommended to prepare your console. With a release scheduled for November 19th, freeing up space on your SSD may be a good idea, especially if you usually have several large games installed. Although we’ll still have to wait for Rockstar to confirm the official requirements, everything indicates that Grand Theft Auto VI will be one of the most storage-demanding titles of this generation, but not to the extreme of needing a dedicated SSD just for it.
