The name of GTA 6 is generating so much attention right now that it was only a matter of time before the first major fraudulent campaigns surrounding the game emerged. Over the past few weeks, fake pages, supposed pre-orders, and suspicious files promising early access to the highly anticipated Rockstar Games title have begun to multiply.
The problem is that many users are taking the bait due to their eagerness to get information before anyone else. And according to a recent security report published by the Threat Intelligence team at NordVPN, the situation is growing rapidly.
Fake GTA 6 betas and pre-orders are already circulating online
The investigation reveals that cybercriminals are taking advantage of the huge interest generated by Grand Theft Auto VI to distribute malware, steal accounts, and redirect users to fraudulent websites. Among the most common claims are:
- fake GTA 6 pre-orders
- non-existent beta access
- downloads of the supposed game
- free keys
- access to the third trailer
- “leaked versions”
Many of these pages even mimic the visual appearance of Rockstar or use official logos to appear legitimate. Some also attempt to steal Rockstar Social Club credentials directly through fake login forms.
NordVPN also explains that several detected files hid malware in the background, masquerading as official installers related to GTA 6. In one of the analyzed examples, the malicious software was disguised as a supposed NVIDIA driver component to avoid raising suspicions. To date, Rockstar has still not officially opened pre-orders for GTA 6, nor is there any publicly announced beta or early downloads available outside of official channels.
Therefore, the most recommended course of action is to ignore any website or link that promises early access, free keys, or downloads related to the game. With the hype surrounding GTA 6, it’s likely that this type of scam will continue to increase over the next few months.
