It’s been many years since the official announcement of BioShock 4 and the silence surrounding the project continues to generate doubts among players. The new chapter in the saga was officially presented in 2019 under the development of Cloud Chamber, a studio created specifically to handle the return of the franchise, but since then we’ve received very few significant updates.
Now, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has shed some light on the game’s current situation. Although he acknowledges that development has been complicated for a long time, he assures that things seem to be heading in a better direction now.
Take-Two Admits BioShock 4 Faced Significant Creative Problems
In a recent interview, Zelnick explained that the project went through a very irregular production, describing a situation where “one day everything was going well and the next it was a disaster“. The executive also admitted to feeling disappointed by the time it’s taking to bring a new installment of such an important saga to life, especially considering that the last major release was BioShock Infinite in 2013.
According to his statements, part of the problems were related to finding the right creative direction. Take-Two acknowledges that the team wasted time and resources exploring ideas that were eventually discarded during development.
However, the situation has reportedly improved significantly since the arrival of Rod Fergusson as the project’s supervisor in 2025. Zelnick claims to feel “much better” about the game’s state now, and Take-Two asserts that they currently have “a good game” in the works, although the ultimate goal remains to launch “a great game”.
