According to data shared by analysis firm Circana and collected by The Game Business, 41% of American players claim that exclusive games are the main reason they use a console like Xbox or PlayStation.

This figure puts exclusives ahead of other important factors such as:

• Friends and family using the same platform
• Online services
• Hardware power
• General catalog
• Console price

In fact, the second most cited reason was the social environment and friends, with 38% of responses.

The report comes at a particularly delicate time for Xbox, where the multi-platform strategy continues to generate a lot of debate within the community. In recent years, Microsoft has released important titles like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, or Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation, with quite positive results in some cases.

However, many players believe that Xbox has lost part of its identity by reducing the weight of exclusives within its ecosystem.

Asha Sharma herself recently hinted that Xbox could “make some decisions” related to this topic in the future, although avoiding hasty conclusions. And seeing studies like this, it seems evident that Microsoft is still seriously analyzing the impact that exclusives have on console sales and player loyalty.
