Samson, the new open-world action game developed by Liquid Swords, already has a confirmed release window for consoles. According to The Game Business, the title will arrive on Xbox Series and PS5 in September 2026.
The news comes just a few weeks after its release on PC, a launch that hasn’t exactly gone as the studio had hoped.
Samson will arrive on Xbox Series as Liquid Swords tries to fix the game
Currently, the game has “Mixed” reviews on Steam, mainly due to:
- Bugs
- Performance issues
- Lack of polish
- Frequent technical errors
Christofer Sundberg, founder of Liquid Swords and former creator of Just Cause, has publicly acknowledged that the launch “didn’t go too well”.
According to Sundberg, the studio is releasing fixes almost daily to improve the experience before the console release.
Additionally, Sundberg confirmed that the project suffered significant cuts during development. Originally, Samson was going to include much deeper RPG elements and a larger scale, but the current industry context forced the studio to reduce its ambitions and opt for self-publishing.
Liquid Swords had around 100 employees working on the game before the cuts made in 2025. Despite everything, the studio claims that reception is starting to improve slowly thanks to recent updates.
Visually and in terms of gameplay, Samson is reminiscent of a mix of GTA-style action and the chaos and mobility characteristic of Just Cause, which is logical given Sundberg’s past at Avalanche Studios.
For now, an exact release date for Xbox Series and PS5 has not been confirmed, although the release is still scheduled for September.
