Rumors about the return of Prototype have been circulating for weeks, especially after some recent moves within Xbox. However, the latest information points in the opposite direction to what many were expecting.
According to Jez Corden, one of the closest voices to the Xbox environment, there is currently no Prototype game in development. A clear statement that puts an end (at least for now) to the speculation.
Prototype is not in development, but Xbox does not rule out reviving the saga
The journalist explained on the XboxTwo podcast that the sources pointing to a possible return were not reliable, and wanted to make it clear what the current situation is: as of April 2026, there is no active project related to the saga.
This directly affects one of the most remembered IPs from Activision, which is now part of the Microsoft ecosystem after the acquisition.
However, not all is bad news. Corden himself points out that this does not mean the saga is forgotten forever. In fact, there are options that could keep it alive in other ways:
- Expansion of backwards compatibility on Xbox and PC
- Possible presence on devices like ROG Ally
- Technical improvements through new technologies in the future
Additionally, with projects like the known Project Helix on the horizon, it also opens the door for classic games to benefit from graphical or performance improvements on new platforms.
For now, however, the reality is clear: there is no new Prototype in the works. But seeing the interest the saga still generates, it’s one of those IPs that could return at any moment if Microsoft decides to bet on it.
