Stellar Blade 2 is starting to raise questions about its future as an exclusive title. Although there’s no official announcement, recent job postings and statements from Shift Up suggest a strategic shift that could alter the game’s destiny.
The South Korean studio has published job openings related to localization, marketing, and public relations, areas typically handled by a major publisher. The job postings themselves mention the intention to “expand their self-publishing capabilities” to provide global support for their console and PC games.
Stellar Blade 2 and the possibility of a multi-platform release
The company has also made it clear that they aim to become a self-sufficient global publisher. This nuance hasn’t gone unnoticed, especially considering that the first game was released as a console exclusive on PlayStation, but it’s not far from being released on other consoles.
If Shift Up decides to go with independent publishing, the scenario would change significantly. This would open the door for Stellar Blade 2 to be released on other platforms like Xbox Series, something that hadn’t been publicly considered until now.
- For now, there’s no official confirmation or details about prior agreements with Sony that could limit the distribution of the sequel. No specific version outside of the PlayStation ecosystem has been announced either.
What does seem clear is that Shift Up wants to have more control over the future of their projects. If this strategy translates to a wider release, Xbox might be closer to getting this highly anticipated sequel than many thought.
